On short notice, we have an opportunity to lunch with Peter Cowley, winemaker of Te Mata Estate, next Wednesday 8 June. Now if you haven't heard of Te Mata Estate, you really should have.

Te Mata TeamVines have been grown at Te Mata for well over 100 years. But it was the acquisition of the property by the current owners in 1978 that set Te Mata on the path to fame as one of the very best New Zealand producers. And the addition of Peter Cowley in 1984 has played no small part in their success. (That's Peter second from the left with the owner John Buck in the middle).

Peter will be here to showcase some new releases as follows:

2010 Te Mata Estate Cape Crest Sauvignon Blanc - 2009 Te Mata Estate Elston Chardonnay - 2009 Te Mata Estate Awatea Cabernet Blend - 2009 Te Mata Estate Coleraine Cabernet Blend - 2009 Te Mata Estate Bullnose Syrah

Past vintages of these wines have collected nothing less than remarkable ratings from the wine critics. And the 2009 Coleraine could be legendary according to notes from the latest Te Mata newsletter which I have reproduced in part below.

“…..So well, in fact, that this March we launch the best wine we have ever made, Coleraine ’09. If, to date, Coleraine has been recognised as being of second growth quality, the ’09 begs the question as to the level we have now reached. Coleraine ’09, is the wine that proves to us that our early hopes were not in vain, we were right, and that, yet again, we are raising the bar for ourselves” – John Buck, Owner

As this event is happening on short notice, it will only proceed if there is enough interest. So please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in attending. This would be a great event to entertain clients, colleagues or friends.

Price is $85.00 which includes 2-Course lunch and all wines as listed above. The venue is The Deanery in the Melbourne CBD. And the food at The Deanery is terrific. You can book and view details of the menu here.
