Jeremy Oliver

In my opinion Jeremy Oliver's website is the most complete website on Australian wine.

Reviews on wines cover many back vintages and indicate drinking windows on all vintages. Jeremy concentrates on wineries with a track record which is both a strength and a weakness. You won't find too many new emerging wineries in his reviews. He waits until they prove themselves over a number of years. His annual review on Australian wine, The Australian Wine Annual, is a 'must buy' for any serious wine collector. But even better, subscribe to his website which at under $40 is good value. Reviews are updated as they are tasted, so you get good information on current releases.

James Halliday - Australian Wine Companion

The stalwart of the Australian Wine Media, James seems to have been around for ever! His reviews and opinions are probably the most widely sought after and respected amongst the Australian wine buying public. His annual  book, The Australian Wine Companion, is an essential wine buyer's resource. It covers (nearly) every Australian winery, along with contact details, cellar door opening times and many wine reviews. On the downside, reviews are often brief and some of the serious wines from certain producers are often not reviewed. I guess it is difficult to keep up with the thousands of new wines released in Australia each year, a task that no single person can be expected to undetake in entirety.

His website contains all past reviews from his Australian Wine Companion but no new reviews are added until the release of his book each year. The 2009 edition was released in August 2008. Worth a subscription at $34.95 per annum. Australian Wine Companion.

The Wine Front

Campbell Mattison has emerged as a force in the Australian Wine media over the past few years. His style is eminently readable and generally amusing.  He covers more 'cutting edge' wineries than any other Australian wine writer. His website is well worth a subscription, although the web layout and ability to find and search for specific wines can be messy and frustrating. The recent addition of podcasts has been interesting.

He has also authored several books that I found most entertaining, particularly one called "Why the French Hate Us".

In August 2008, Gary Walsh from Winorama joined up with Campbell which will provide even more reviews. And I like the fact that they both review wines in a timely manner.

In September 2008 a new version of The Wine Front website was launched which hopefully will address the "search" issues raised above.
